Daily Bread - Psalm 20:1-9

Daily Bread

Title: Trusting, Praying, Living
Psalm 20:1-9
Key Verse: 4

May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.

Prayer: May all that I do succeed; and all that I do be only in You.

The daily bread writer points out that we can succeed and have all we need when we stay dependent on God and call out to Him.

In the Psalm, King David mentions a number of ways that we can depend on God and seek His will.
-Verse 1 - God answers us when we ask
-Verse 3 - God remembers our sacrifices
-Verse 7 - God knows when we trust in Him and not other things

So, first I see that I need to ask. I need to pray and speak to God directly, bringing my petitions and supplications. When I pray, I do not speak to a wall. I do not speak to a machine. My words and heart are heard by the Holy God. I shouldn't allow myself to think like Belloq and feel that I need a magical device like the Ark of the Covenant to act as "a transmitter - a radio for speaking to God." I have direct access to God whenever I need Him. He hears me as a father bends down to listen to a daughter. The veil has been torn and I can come to the throne of grace with confidence. Not confidence in and of myself. No, the only confidence I have is Christ. Under the mark of his blood, I am spared.

May I remember to guard my time for prayer and respect this time as something sacred, something powerful, something wonderful, and something exciting! :)

We no longer need to offer up sacrifices as verse three suggests. Still, we are told to offer up living sacrifices, living lives dead to the flesh but alive in Christ. We are set apart and are expected to seek to live and walk in a way that respects this truth. Otherwise, the truth is not really in us. God sees how we live. Our work and devotion to His way is never in vain, if we do it with a sincere heart.

May I remember to live a holy life, a pleasing and delightful offering to God. This I do not on my own will, but only through Christ, who lives in me.

Finally, we are to trust in God above all else. There are countless records of events where the odds were against God's people, yet He gave them the victory. Coming to mind are the offerings of the priests of Baal vs Elijah's offering in 1 Kings 18 and Gideon's defeat of the Midianites in Judges 7. I wonder how many similar situations there are if one would count? There is amazing evidence of God's power and mercy - so why do I trust other things? Because sometimes God seems so far away and unreal. This kind of thinking is one that indicates that I am not walking close enough with God. I see many people who know God in a very real way and their faith is tough! I am working on this :) Well, God is working with me on this^^

May I seek out God above all other things. May I take that precious seven-times refined silver and food sweeter than honey to myself so the work of God might purify me and mature me in faith.

Psalm 20:4 May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.

Joshua 1:7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.

One Word: pray, live, trust

The wind speaks of ...

News like today's makes me guilty for complaining about my average life. What a sin and an ignorant offense complaining is! I will be taking extra time in prayer tonight.

I remember the Psalm of this morning: "May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble"
I also remember that the Lord Jesus Christ is called "Prince of Peace"... May His peace be upon all those who are struck by this tragedy. May they be blessed with the promise of Isaiah 26:3, kept close under the shadow of His wings.

On another topic, it was so windy in Maryland today that I could barely walk to class. I took steps forward, but it felt more like swimming than walking.

Ah, the words of Children of Dune come to mind... Come to think on it, when he wind roared in that miniseries, it brought both curses and blessings. Hmm.

Tomorrow: cataloging with Dewey, Cold Fusion, Oracle, and more.
