Daily Bread - Deuteronomy 23:1-25

Daily Bread

Title: Righteousness in Covenant and speech
Deuteronomy 23:1-25
Key Verse 14

Part I. God is with you

Verse 14: "For the LORD your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy, so that he will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you."

This verse is so very interesting. It speaks of the faith of Abraham.
The God of Abraham, the Most High God, said that He will be moving about the camp of Israel. No matter what men do, however, they are not pure enough to stand before God on their own. See Moses, who could not enter the land, yet he was one of the most Godly men who walked the earth (Deuteronomy 34). See the High Priest Joshua who in all his raiment was nothing but filthy garments before the angel of God (Zechariah 3). Isaiah says that all our own righteousness is but filthy rags before God (Isaiah 64:6).

So I was wondering, how is it that God would wander the camp like this?

I found the answer in Genesis 15:6.
"Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness."
You see, we are not righteous on our own at all. Yet, when we believe in God and follow His way, we are accounted as righteous before Him. When the people Israel did all they could, with sincere and humble hearts, then God was merciful and granted them the righteousness that had yet to come.

Today, we are given a new Covenant - but the work of our hearts is the same. Just as Israel, we are to live upright lives that seek God's mercy and His righteousness. We are to trust God and know Him. We are to do all for His glory!

In this way, God can be with us. He told the people Israel that He would be there, moving about the camp. Jesus tells us that he will always be with us - even to the end of the age. He sent his Spirit, the Spirit of the Living God to come upon those who have repented their sin and sought all mercy and righteousness of God. We Christians should not take such words lightly. This is God among us and working through us. We are anointed with the Holy Spirit - just as our forefathers Abraham and Moses, Joseph and Jacob, Isaac and David, Samuel and Jeremiah, Isaiah and Malachi. They were moved by the mighty Spirit of God to live for Him and they will be at the great wedding feast! So will we, "if you hold firmly to the word" (1 Corinthians 15:2).

Part II. The power of words

Verse 23: "Whatever your lips utter you must be sure to do, because you made your vow freely to the LORD your God with your own mouth."

Just as we revere God and His grace, we should revere the gifts He has given us. This thing we call communication is not something to be taken for granted. It is the way by which we know one another, know God, and read fun books like Silmarillion^^

When we speak, we should watch ourselves. When we communicate, what is our inner motive? Mine can often become overtaken by self-pity. Instead, all that we do, including our words and all communication, should be out of a spirit of love and truth. In this way, we do not do evil.

One Word: Seek a righteous life with God

My homework today...bitter

This database project is taxing me more and more each day. Today, it was SQL reports that made my head spin. I am so tired of this project that I am just angry with it! I don't know why, but I got so angry today working on it - and for those that know me, I do not easily get that way...

Well, we have been working on it since the first day of class, January 30.
The report is already over 70 pages long and it is far from being finished.
We have two running versions of the database in Oracle with about 40 tables total in each.
In addition, we have a half-finished Cold Fusion site that "runs" queries and generates lists of various data.

At this point, I am working on the report. It will consist of the following:
-Project Description
-Requirements Analysis
-E-R Conceptual Data Schema
-Schema of Tables
-Printout of all data entered into the database, table by table
-SQL Queries and Reports
-Cold Fusion Queries and Reports, with weblayout
-Text Plans for Data Input Forms
-Project Wrap-up essay

When this is done...I will feel so very relieved. This database is heavy stuff - heavy on my back! :(

Ahh, well, at least for a little while before bed I can relax by writing Braille and listening to 'Truly.' ^_^ Sometimes I just need to do something tactile to unwind from a long day of brain-work.

Braille is fun.
I am experimenting with pressure, placement, and alignment. It is much like any art, really.

Also, it is a curious thing to write a page of text and then write a level of Braille on top of it/through it.
Reminds me of the scene in Children of Dune when Irulan and the Bene gesserit have a full and coherent verbal conversation while also communicating a separate conversation through hand signals at the same time. That takes skill.
Also, the text + Braille reminds me of the many levels of communication we all engage in daily. We use all of our senses individually to interact with others in a single moment. The difference seems to me to be that in normal communication we try to piece facets together and make a whole. Secret battle language or text + Braille split up messages to be processed independently but also simultaneously. With only one brain, I, like a computer with a single CPU, can only focus on one thing at a time, though. O_o;

Also, I still can't get over how much better Japanese Braille writers and styluses are. :)
