A Balance

Daily Bread - Psalm 7

Daily Psalm

Title: Cling to what is good
Psalm 7
Key verse 8

The Lord judges the peoples;
judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness
and according to the integrity that is in me.

This verse always seems to cut to the heart and make me feel anxious. That's because it is a test. To help us see the heart of us.

It is easy for us to say that judgment will come upon men.
Yes, but is it comforting to think that judgment will come upon me, as well? Can I declare with a bold voice, "judge me, O Lord!"? If not, then there is something askew in my life.

I will never be able to see true beauty and light if I cling to sin. If I do that, then when the sword cuts to the sin, I will be cut along with it. No, I must cling to righteousness and be protected from the sword. Yet that righteousness is not within myself.

Colossians 3:3 - "For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God."

Daily, it is up to me to examine my life and see if I hold true to these things. I need to walk by the Spirit, closely guarding myself against pride and jealousy, fear and selfishness.

It reminds me of the quote from Socrates: "The unexamined life is not worth living."

So taking the advice of Socrates and the urging in Psalms, I need to set my mind to living purposefully and sincerely, always willing and ready to grow, always seeking to know the righteousness of Christ.
