Mighty in the Scriptures

Acts 18:24
"Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, [was] an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures..."
To fulfill this goal of mine (which I have listed in this previous post), I found out what I have to do.

Proverbs 1:23
"...Surely I will pour out my spirit on you;
I will make my words known to you."

The only way to understand any writing is to understand it through the mind of the one who wrote it. But how do we get inside the Great Author's mind? It's not through psychological analysis. It's by allowing His Spirit to be poured out over us.

He can't wait to help us understand His words - that's why He has them written and preserved all these years. He is eager to share His mind and heart with us as a close friend and true teacher. All I need to do is be willing to listen to Him and learn from Him. I will be joyful as I discover new treasures of truth and wisdom and He will be joyful to share His heart. That is the relationship of all good mentors and students. I can say that from experience :) I also can't wait to learn from the Great Teacher in the same way!

Here I am, Lord. I am sitting at Your feet like Mary and waiting for you to teach me. Make me wise, skillful, and perfect in truth!

Ruth 2:2
So Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Please let me go to the field, and glean heads of grain after him in whose sight I may find favor.” And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.”

I need to come with an attitude of eagerness to work. Ruth did not get dragged off to glean grain kicking and screaming the whole way. She asked for permission to go and work. She actively and willingly went away to work. If I come to God's word with that kind of attitude, God will look kindly upon me and give me what I have come for. Boaz does this for Ruth, after all!

Ruth 2:16 and 3:17
[Boaz said,] "Also let grain from the bundles fall purposely for her; leave it that she may glean, and do not rebuke her."
And she said, "These six ephahs of barley he gave me..."

If I come to God's field with an eager working spirit, He will surely give me all that I came for. We may have to do some work together in the field, but He will also provide me with all I need for strength and rest that day (Ruth 2:14). What a gracious Lord and a Great Teacher!

I am learning to "let go" when I don't know a letter. That way, I only miss that one and can continue copying. Otherwise, I would continue repeating the memory of the one I missed while lots of new letters pass me by in a row... Weirdly enough, I am getting my "e" (dit) and "t" (dah) confused quite often. I wonder if that is normal? And can I just say that 20 minutes straight feels like a long time, whew! I need a break now.
