The tongue

Words can be used for many things. They can inform, remind, discourage, make on laugh, make one hurt, or bring healing to the tired soul. Being surrounded by a society of information and words, I routinely take for granted the power of communication. Yet at the same time, I myself am deeply impacted by it. Compliments at work fuel my enthusiasm at the job and chats with family on the phone are a pleasant way to pass the time. Since the tongue is something that I use everyday in all aspects of life, I want to see that it is put to use sincerely for good and for blessing.

James 3:9-10
"With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be."

Romans 12:9
"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good."

Proverbs 12:18
"Reckless words pierce like a sword,
but the tongue of the wise brings healing."

Proverbs 16:24
"Pleasant words are a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and healing to the bones."
