Thanksgiving 09 review

Thanksgiving weekend was really nice.

We got in to Gettysburg around lunch time and Thanksgiving dinner was ready as soon as we stepped in the door, set down our hats, and I found a safe spot for the mandolin case. Turkey, gravy, corn, sweet potatoes, lima beans, filling (my favorite), bread with homemade jam, and cranberry sauce. Then, the gals washed the dishes while the guys set up a new VCR in the basement. After the dishes were clean, I copied down my grandmother's prize-winning apple pie recipe. That afternoon, we all sat around chatting, poking at the mandolin, and playing a game of cards. Toward dinner time, we had some Waldorf Salad, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin cake. I was stuffed and pleased as could be! We drove home just as night was falling on Gettysburg town and had a drizzly drive home along the river.

On Friday morning, I went to see the doctor, the chiropractor, and got a hair cut. The doctor cleaned out my ears and gave me a clean bill of health. The chiropractor advised me to keep up the probiotics for a while as well as drinking plenty of fluids. He said it might take a little while to fully recover from the flu/cold that I had earlier this month. We got home just in time to see the ending of a rough game for the Flyers. There were two injuries to the team. I still feel sore when I think of Laperierre, who took a puck to the face and had to get at least 50 stitches put in. He returned to play later on in that game, surprising us all! On Friday evening, after a dinner of pork and sauerkraut, we went up to Newky to visit my grandparents. It's always so nice to see them and to spend time with them. Of course, we all had ice cream! I didn't go out Black Friday shopping that day, though my dad did and reported back on all the adventures :)

On Saturday, we went out for Chinese - what a treat! After we got home, I found a cozy spot on the couch and took a nap. My brother followed in suit. About an hour later, after we were awake again, we went back up to my grandparents for a bit and wished them goodbye until Christmas. That evening, we munched on pumpkin pie and watched more hockey. Another Flyers game, this time in Atlanta, and then shootouts (Washington and Montreal, Calgary and Columbus). Wow, what good games!

Sunday, we spent the morning in church learning from Philippians (Rejoice in the Lord!), sharing communion, and singing a number of hymns, carols, and choruses. I sure do miss my church family, too! After church, we ate leftovers and then packed up for our trips. Dad and I got started first on our way to DC and mom and Matt later started off for Rochester. They headed upstream, while we went downstream :) Dad and I got in around 6, ate some sandwiches, and then he headed off home again. I attended to some chores and am now catching up on email and things. My, how I miss home! Someday if I get the chance to move back to PA...
