O CAPTAIN!

O CAPTAIN! my Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weather'd every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:
  But O heart! heart! heart!
   O the bleeding drops of red,
    Where on the deck my Captain lies,
     Fallen cold and dead.

First stanza of "O Captain! My Captain!" by Walt Whitman in Leaves of Grass, 1900.

2 Corinthians 12:8-9
"Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord... And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you...'"

Indeed, we had just sighted shore and found the near fulfillment of countless goals. O captain! My tears gave me little rest last night and I barely closed my front door behind me at 5:30 pm before they overcame me yet again today. My captain! Who will safely guide us to harbor? I am but the hand at the wheel, attentive to the next word of command.

In the midst of this wringing sadness, my soul is steadfast, resting upon the Lord of all strength and comfort. His grace is sufficient. His wisdom is sufficient. His strength is sufficient. I have no need to fear. Lord, help me. May Your strength be made perfect in my weakness! Amen.
