Mid-March St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Since I'm part Irish, I should have been wearing green...but at least I got my shepherds pie for lunch at the cafeteria :) I very thoroughly enjoyed the Irish jig music that they were playing and the chocolate cake with minty green icing was pretty tasty! I was feeling quite merry during my brief lunch break. I also attended an interesting talk on data representation downstairs. The name Tufte came up, as I hoped it might. I still need to get one of Tufte's books for study. I've been meaning to do that since my second semester at grad school.

I wasn't feeling up to par today and was exhausted by the time I got home. While I should have been resting, I felt guilty for being lazy, and tried to catch up on small tasks online. I inherit this tendency from both sides of my family and the culture of the central PA farming community! I need some ice cream and cards to kick back and relax.

By the way, I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed when the census form neglected to ask my occupation. Occupational information is so interesting and helpful in genealogical research! I've been trying to track down more information on the Welsh captain from my crew lists, master mariner John James; but so far, I haven't found anything. I'm not familiar enough with Welsh geography or culture. I should be - my name originates from Wales!
