Walk on the water

Yesterday, I began to dread the thought of returning to work. So I stopped, thought, prayed, wrote out my muddled thoughts. Lord, this storm looks so vast, how can I enter it and stand firm?

How did Peter walk on the water? (Matthew 14:24-33)
He just...walked, I suppose.
Peter walked. And how does one walk?
A step at a time?
A step at a time. Peter walked on the waves of the storm the same way that a person walks beside the still waters - a step at a time.

So, with my feet planted on the firm Rock, I stood and looked into the storm. What was it that I had to do tomorrow? It seemed overwhelming until I took it and broke it down into steps. I had to create packets, arrange material, make copies, prepare my outline for the presentation, etc. When I looked at the work at that level, in light of my eternal hope, it all seemed incredibly manageable.

God also spoke to me through Isaiah, condemning the fear that plagued me and comforting my heart.

Isaiah 51:12-13
"I, even I, am he who comforts you.
Who are you that you fear mortal men,
the sons of men, who are but grass,
that you forget the LORD your Maker,
who stretched out the heavens
and laid the foundations of the earth,
that you live in constant terror every day..."

This is a passing rain shower; but my Savior will never pass away. I will stand firm because He has made me stand on the eternal Foundation. He has set my feet upon the Rock. He has lifted up my head. "He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand." Psalm 40:2

3 months and 2 days and counting. O my Strength, continue to help these feet follow you forward, a step at a time.
