Nativity

Who was the first person to know the Messiah's name?

I was wondering a few days ago - who was the first human being to know the name of the promised Savior of the world? In the Old Testament, God gave many prophecies concerning the Messiah; but the Messiah was not identified by his name Jesus in the Old Testament (at least, not that I know of).

I checked the New Testament, and it looks like two people knew his name before he was born. One person was his mother, Mary, and the other was his foster-father, Joseph. Before the Messiah was conceived, an angel visited Mary and declared, "you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus..." (Luke 1:31) Later, after Mary was pregnant, an angel visited her fiance Joseph, and said, "...the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus..." (Matthew 1:20-21)

Based on the record in the Gospels, it seems that both Mary and Joseph knew the Messiah's name before Jesus was born. And it seems that Mary was the first person to be told his name. Was she the first person in history to know the name of Jesus, our Savior? What an amazing blessing... :)

Together, Mary and Joseph presented Jesus for circumcision, according to the law, "and he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb." (Luke 2:21)
