Title: Come into God's presence
Key Verse 6
In this Psalm, David praises God for the victories and honor God gave him. More than all these, though, he praises God for who He is and takes delight in the presence of the God of love.
I wonder what many Christians would say is their favorite part of being a Christian? Would it be the hope of the promises? Would it be singing praises and hymns to the LORD? Would it be joy in the opportunity to pray to God for His peace, wisdom, and guidance? King David says in verse 6 that it is coming into God's presence that makes him glad. Above all, we should love to sit in the presence of God - whether it be through song, meditation, prayer, study, or worship. It is not the activity that is meaningful - it is the relationship. We can meditate on God, yet not be close to Him. We can sing songs with Godly lyrics, yet not understand what they mean. The joy of the Christian should not be in these activities themselves, but in the One we draw closer to through them.
The Holy God is a God of love, peace, and hope.
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,
Because the LORD has anointed me
To bring good news to the afflicted;
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,...
To comfort all who mourn,
To grant those who mourn in Zion,
Giving them a garland instead of ashes,
The oil of gladness instead of mourning,...
One Word: Come into God's presence
This incident last night summarizes how I have been feeling the past month:
I woke up in the middle of the night, but the lights shining in from the McDonald's lit up the room. I rolled over and blinked. The clock said after 1:00!? I have class at 2:00! I need to finish my homework and then print it and then run to class...
So I leapt out of bed and started walking to the bathroom. About 4 steps later, I realized it was 1:00 am, not 1:00 pm. Mmmm.
I went back to bed and fell fast asleep.
My dad gave me this verse this morning - Ecclesiastes 12:12
"...Of making many books there is no end, and much study is wearisome to the flesh."
I am in total agreement with this! :p
