Title: True Devotion to God
Key Verse 33
In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.
What is Christianity? Is it a belief? A style of life? A set of activities?
Let me put it this way. Christians are not people who treat their hope as merely a facet of life, assigning it to the category of religion and leaving it as that. It is not a part of life that we fulfill only on Sundays. No, Christianity is life. God doesn't want us to devote a piece of our lives, but our whole lives! He didn't create just part of us, but our whole. And so, God doesn't want us to be half-hearted or half-minded toward Him. He wants us to devote all our minds and hearts and strength to Him - not a facet of each of those. It's then that He can begin to fulfill the creation He began in us.
"Why is God so demanding?" I ask. Well, because He longs to give us good gifts, so much better than we can imagine. He longs to trade our shame for glory. He wants to meet us, each of us, and with His own hand, wipe away every one of our tears. He does not demand our all because He wants to rob us of something. No, He wants to give. He desires to give us life, love, and hope. This the God's good pleasure.
Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32
