I really liked this passage. I liked it so much I am going to post parts of it!
"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory."
When we have life, it is not of the world but of Christ. Death is of the world. So, with life, it is only appropriate to focus on the source of that life instead of the source of vanities under the sun. God's ways are pure ways and higher than the world's ways. His ways are good, lovely, just, and pure. We are told in Philippians 4:8 to meditate on these good things. The world is corrupted and disappointing, so when we meditate on the things of the world, it is bad for us. We should use the minds we have been given to meditate on worthy things.
Those who accept Christ are accepted by him. Not only accepted, but hidden with him under the wings of God. Knowing this, it only makes sense to keep our minds focused on his peace and love, rather than the tumult of trouble that surrounds us. Nothing can seperate us from the love of God.
And not just for the present, but the future offers hope! While even now we can experience the presence and peace of God, someday, Jesus' own will get to go meet him and Resurrect from this world into his presence! These are all things to meditate on, things to keep up our courage, reminders of God's love and desire to bless us. They are like those little sticky note reminders that my dad leaves my mom saying "I love you!" God is reminding us that he has good things in store - both now and forever - for those who love him.
One Word: Set your mind on good things
