Comments on some verses from Romans

12:2 "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will."
This verse really struck me a few months ago. I realized that I needed to use my mind and do some research into what the Bible really says. I took for granted that I knew it.

12:6a, 8a "We have different gifts, according to the grace given us...if it is encouraging, let him encourage"
Today as pastor Jacob was teaching us about this verse, he pointed out some of our individual talents. He said that one of us was wonderful in service, another had a gift and calling for writing, another in music, and for me... encouraging. It's kind of ironic these days when I am taking in all the outside encouragement I can with these classes, but... :) If I am seen as an encourager, then I will try my best to do that!! This world is so discouraging, so I put on the armor of light and by the grace of God wage war! Down with discouragement! Together, may we Living Stones build up the church of God, each one with his sword and each one with the gift of God!

12:9a "Love must be sincere."
I have always known this. I just didn't know that it was in the Book of Romans^^

13:10 "Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law."
When I heard the reader read the second part of this passage - "love is the fulfillment of the law" - I paused. I think there is a lot more in this phrase than meets the eye.

Love was indeed the fulfillment of the Law...

13:11b "The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed."
How exciting!

13:14 "Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature."
As I am thinking about this verse, the vision of the high priest Joshua and Satan comes to mind.
It is found in Zechariah 3. Verses 3 and 4 read - "Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. The angel said to those who were standing before him, "Take off his filthy clothes." Then he said to Joshua, "See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put rich garments on you."
Also, Revelation 3:18 "I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see."
Notice how we aren't advised to go take a bath and wash our clothes. We receive these rich garments and purity. Praise God! :)
