Sardine

Normally, when I get to the train station in the morning, I only have to wait 1-3 minutes for a train. This morning when I arrived, the board didn't list any approaching trains. After a minute or so, the board updated with a train: 8 minutes away.

A female announcer came on over the speaker. The blue line is delayed in both directions due to an earlier train malfunction which has been resolved. The orange line is delayed in both directions due to an earlier train malfunction which has been resolved. The red line is delayed in both directions due to an earlier report of smoke emitting from a train which has been extinguished. Trains are single tracking around Rockville station.

I guess trains dislike the cold as much as cars.

When the next train pulled into the station, the seats had already been taken and many people were standing. I found a spot to stand and before I knew it, I was a sardine. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to get off at my stop, but after some apologetic pushing, I was free and back out into the 20-some degree air for my march to the Library. My nose grew very cold on the way and I wondered if it had frozen! I was very glad that I wore my long coat and warm hat.

It was much warmer for my commute home. I nearly interrupted a random Caps fan to wish him a fun time at the game, but figured that would be weird and instead hopped on the waiting train to go home. After dinner, I played some Christmas carols on the mandolin and turned on the radio to follow the game. I don't think I will miss these commutes.
