Today, though, I came to realize something. If I am a wife and found under the wings of a husband, I am still not going to be wholly satisfied by this fact alone. Whether a single woman, a married woman, a single man, or a married man, one is not whole until they are found "in Christ" and under the shelter of His wings. As an unmarried person, I can hide in His mercy alone. If married, I can hide in the embrace of my husband and rest together with him in Christ. No matter what relationship status I am to be found in, I can find perfect contentment if I am found "in Christ." "But as God has distributed to each one, as the Lord has called each one, so let him walk...Brethren, let each one remain with God in that state in which he was called." I Corinthians 7:17, 24
In Ephesians 1:3-14 the phrase "in Christ" appears 3 times, the phrase "in Him" referring to Christ appears 6 times (I think), the phrase "in the Beloved" appears 1 time, and the phrase "through Jesus Christ" appears 1 time.
"grace...in the Beloved"
"in Him we have redemption"
"chose us in Him"
"hope in Christ"
"in Him, you also..."
"sealed in Him"
"adoption as sons through Jesus Christ"
"in Him also we have obtained an inheritance"
"purposed in Him"
"summing up of all things in Christ"
Jesus Christ was and is the perfect Son of God. God told us this on more than one occasion: "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." Matthew 3:17, 17:5 Jesus was a Lamb without spot and without blemish. He was perfect. Resting "in Christ" we are assured that God will accept us wholly because God was "well pleased" with Jesus and completely satisfied with Jesus' heart, soul, strength, and mind. Jesus was perfect. While we are not, we can hide under the shadow of his wings and rest in His perfect life, work, and glory. Praise the Lord Jesus and His God and Father!
