Meditations on the rich young ruler

Jesus looked at him and loved him... (Mark 10:21)

Who was this person that Jesus loved in this verse? This is how the man appears to me:

He was an eager man. He ran up to Jesus. (v 17)
He was a humble man. He fell on his knees before Jesus. (v 17)
He was a seeker. He asked a very important question of Jesus. (v 17)
He was a listener. He paid attention to the words of Jesus. (v 20, 22)
He was an honest man. He seemed to speak sincerely to Jesus. (v 20)
He was an imperfect man. He was saddened by the command of Jesus. (v 22)
He was a needy man. He needed a Savior who would do the impossible for him. (v 25, 27) And the Savior looked at him graciously, mercifully, patiently, full of loving-kindness, relenting from doing harm (see Jonah 4:2).

Hebrews 12:2 - Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith...

John 12:44-45, 47 - Then Jesus cried out, "...When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me..."

John 14:8-9 - Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
