Our righteousness

"In those days Judah will be saved
and Jerusalem will live in safety.
This is the name by which it will be called:
The LORD Our Righteousness." Jeremiah 33:16

"It is because of him [God the Father] that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God - that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption." 1 Corinthians 1:30

Lately I feel as though I've been writing quite a lot about the righteousness that comes by faith. Perhaps it sounds as though this righteousness is available to pick up and do with as one pleases. That surely isn't true. The righteousness of God is freely available to us - but it comes in the form of a Person. If we would have the righteousness of God, we must also have the righteous One. We must submit our lives to Christ if we would have his righteousness, because that righteousness is in God's Son Jesus and it cannot be obtained through any other source.

If we surrender ourselves to Christ, do we find him to be a tyrant who oppresses and desires to destroy our lives? By no means! He tells us why he came the first time:

"I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness." -John 12:46
"For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me." -John 6:38
"For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost." -Matthew 18:11
"just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." -Matthew 20:28
"...I did not come to destroy [the Law and the Prophets] but to fulfill [them]" -Matthew 5:17
"...I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." -John 10:10
