Evening in the Word

Yesterday evening was lovely. I met with 6 other brothers and sisters to read through the majority of the book of Luke (from Peter's confession in chapter 9 onward). Each of us read a chapter in turn until we reached the end of the book. How awesome it was to gather around the feet of Jesus and listen to His teaching! After we finished, we shared observations, questions, and studied a difficult passage (Luke 16). We munched on fresh strawberries, oranges, and pretzels as we chatted. Finally, we all turned to God in prayer with our praises, confessions, requests, and thanks. After that we took a walk to Good Stuff and shared the rest of the evening over milkshakes and burgers.

What a blessed evening! We just enjoyed listening, reading, studying, meditating, and praying Scripture. I felt very much like the disciples at the very end of the Gospel according to Luke: "And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen."
