Last week - meals, books, and fellowship

Busy week here!

Last Saturday was my First Aid/CPR/AED class at the Red Cross HQ. I had a wonderful time! We saw some videos, practiced on mannequins, and took quizzes to test our knowledge. I partnered up with a woman who works at a Day Care facility. I really enjoyed the class and couldn't stop talking about it :)

Tuesday night I shared dinner with a lady from church before going to Bible study. We had a very encouraging time of study in Romans chapter 3.

Wednesday night I cooked chicken and vegetable stew - one of my grandmother's recipes. It was very tasty! I was also happy to have been able to have a guest over for dinner. Since I'm blessed in that I only have to cook once a week for my house, I'm hoping that I can get more in the habit of using mealtime as an opportunity to invite more people over for fellowship. May the Lord use these simple times of cooking, eating, and conversation for His glory and the growth of His church.

On Thursday, there was a used book sale at the office. I picked up an old hymnal, Bonhoeffer's The Cost of Discipleship, Augustine's Confessions, a book about death from the Jewish perspective, and another NIV Bible. That evening, one of my roommates celebrated a birthday. We ate burritos, chips and salsa, and fruit for dinner and decorated the first floor with streamers, balloons, and a big sign that spelled out HAPPY BIRTHDAY :) It was a fun evening!

Friday evening was low-key - a time to rest and watch a movie. Saturday has been a restful day catching up on chores one at a time - laundry, paperwork, etc. Tomorrow after church, we have another birthday to celebrate! We're going out apple-picking in Virginia, Lord-willing :) It sounds like it will be a lot of fun!

In other news, I've contacted a few nurses from church to learn more about the field of nursing and to see if there might be any other classes that I could take since I've finished First Aid/CPR certification. One of the women invited me over to her home to visit next week.

I'm still considering catching the Amtrak to Fredericksburg on Saturday, Dec 10. The tickets down are only $17, and that day is very close to the time when my g-g-g grandfather was there during the Civil War in 1862.

In the mornings, I've been reading through some very amazing chapters in Numbers - Korah's rebellion, Aaron's rod, the plague of fiery serpents (John 3), and more. Numbers is an amazing book of Scripture.
