I've recently been studying Acts 15 and Romans 9-11 and am amazed to see God's word to the believers - Jews and Gentiles.

I'm beginning to see that in Christ, "there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:28 While one, God gives His people unique callings as male or female, Jew or Gentile. I know many people who are eager to understand the Biblical teaching on manhood and womanhood (praise the Lord!), but I haven't yet heard many people who are eager to understand the Biblical teaching on our calling as Jews and Gentiles in the body of Christ. Jesus is our one Lord, so how do we honor him with our daily lives and relationships?

In Acts 15, is God showing us that as Jews and Gentiles in Christ we must both look to God's word (Old and New Testament) for the principles of life? The four "necessary things" given to the Gentiles addressed the sanctity of true worship, of life, and of marriage. These same principles are taught during the opening chapters of Genesis, even before the call of Abraham. They are further taught throughout the remainder of the Old Testament and by Jesus (the Sermon of the Mount comes to mind). While Gentiles no longer need to be circumcised and observe the law in order to be included in the assembly of faith (as they were required in the days before Christ - Exodus 12:49, Leviticus 24:22, Numbers 15:16), Gentiles are nonetheless called to hear God's word and follow Him. Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." John 10:27

What exactly does that look like? I haven't gotten that far yet, but I think it looks like walking with God in faith and bearing good fruit as branches rooted in Christ.

May God help me to understand life in this new covenant under the Lordship of Christ, our Savior and King! Amen :)
