Settling in

It's been one month since I started my new job.  I've been settling in gradually.  I finalized all my paperwork, decorated my office, stocked up on supplies, got a tour around campus, and began meeting the campus staff and faculty. On the work end of things, I've completed a number of training courses in reporting software, advanced Excel features, SharePoint, data visualizations, and workflows.  I've also started tackling some updates and debugging for our digital forms, led a meeting regarding our data warehouse project, and began evaluating reporting software.  There's a lot to learn, but I'm trying to stay focused and pace myself, documenting what I learn and do along the way and keeping everything in perspective.

The first month was also an exciting time on campus. We had a picnic and wished our graduating class well. We also began preparing for the incoming class - the summer season will be busy for us.

I'm very thankful for this job and pray that I continue to settle in well, get my footing, and prove to be a productive member of the team.

Outside of work, the month of May has been busy for trooping with the 501st Legion as an Imperial Navy Trooper and Crewman.  We appeared at a local comic book shop for Free Comic Book Day and at a local public library for a mini sci-fi convention.  I've had a lot of fun journeying to new places, wearing my costume, and getting to know the local troopers.

I've also kept busy bird watching, studying God's word with my church, and spending time with my family :)  It's been almost one year since I moved from DC and I'm glad that I did.
