Color Bible Word Studies

Some notes on the words for "blue", "purple", and "scarlet" used in Exodus.

Blue (תְּכֵלֶת)
Exodus - 34 times
Numbers - 6
Chronicles - 3

This color was likely obtained from a mussel - the cerulean mussel?
The skies - the heavens - are blue. God sent His Prophet, Jesus, from heaven to us (Deuteronomy 18:15). God met His people on the mountain at Sinai and then at Jerusalem.

Purple (אַרְגָּמָן)
Exodus - 26 times
Numbers - 1
Chronicles - 1
also mentioned in Song of Solomon

This color was likely obtained from a species of shellfish. The word is of foreign origin.
It is a royal color. Jesus is royal - our King, the Son of God and the Son of David. Also, Jesus came from another place - from heaven (John 1:1-14, John 6:46-53).

Scarlet (שָׁנִי)
Exodus - 28 times
Leviticus - 5
Numbers 2
Song of Solomon - 1

This color was likely obtained from an insect - coccus ilicis?
It's interesting that the color of blood and atonement comes from an insect, "a worm"? (from the psalm that Jesus quoted on the cross - Psalm 22:6).

Wait, is it the same word?? Is Jesus calling himself the worm - the curse-for-us who bled on the cross - and the worm, the color of "scarlet" that was used in the dye for the temple curtains?? The curtain - His flesh? Are "worm" and "scarlet" the same, referring to the source of the dye? See Strongs H8438 תּוֹלָע and compare to Strongs H8144. Sometimes, they are used at the same time "towla shaniy". Wow, wow, wow! :O
