In the verse where Peter tells us how to adorn ourselves, how to make ourselves beautiful, he encourages us to focus not on outward beauty, but on the beauty of the inner person, with a "gentle and quiet spirit" (1 Peter 3:4). That word "gentle" or "meek" is the Greek word praus.
The Lord Jesus also describes Himself with this same word!
In Matthew 11:29, Jesus says: "I am gentle". The prophets, too, describe our Lord with this word. When Zechariah proclaims the coming King, he describes Him as "humble" (Zechariah 9:9, Matthew 21:5) using this same Greek word. The Lord calls us to be like Him, in His courage and in His tenderness. Praise the Lord, who by His grace makes us His own and causes His new creation to flourish, so we might reflect Him more and more. :)
"And all of us,
with unveiled faces,
seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror,
are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another;
for this comes from the Lord,
the Spirit." 2 Corinthians 3:18
Guide us, Lord, in Your love.
