The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Wow, this is exciting! :)

I was reading from the Scriptures this evening, and stumbled on this verse: "And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you; but stay in the city, until you are clothed with power from on high." Luke 24:49

Back in 2012, I was pondering - what is God's promise? Is it related to the Holy Spirit? When Zechariah sings to the Lord and praises God for remembering the oath which He swore to Abraham - of freedom so that we might serve God - what did this mean exactly? What was the promise to Abraham? And how is that promise related to the hope of being freed to live for God? What does the Old Testament say about the Holy Spirit? Is He the blessing which God the Father promised?

Here's the link to that post - 'Blessing...Spirit'. I had assembled a few different verses about the promise of the Holy Spirit, but I had missed this promise from the Lord Himself recorded in Luke's gospel. I wonder what else the Bible says about this that I had missed before? :)
